DAY-31: Cruise Bonus Day #5 - Panama
DAY-31: Cruise Bonus Day #5 - Panama
Day – 31: Thursday, March 19, 2020
Starting Location: M.S. Marina at Balboa, Panama Anchorage
Ending Location: M.S. Marina at Balboa, Panama Anchorage
Today will be a day of waiting for something to happen while we await our canal transit planned for tomorrow.
So we get another "free day" with plenty of food and wine basking in the tropical sun of the Central American Pacific coast. People pay big bucks for opportunities like this and for us it's "free". Another bonus for us is the surprise canal transit, negating the need for a future cruise simply to make the canal transit.
The day was a good one if you like the outdoor environment of our latitude, hot, sunny and a bit humid but there is a breeze. The pool deck was loaded.
Today's family activity was making arrangements for viewing our ship's transit through the Miraflores Locks of the canal. The Miraflores Locks are the step up from the Pacific side. There is a 24/7 webcam streaming still images on a ten second refresh cycle. As our transit will be during daylight hours and we'll be the only big white cruise ship transiting it shouldn't be too difficult to identify us approaching and in the lock. Here's a stock image taken from the webcam for a past transit.
This should be our last sunset over the Pacific for this trip. It's a good one!
Had dinner in the Red Ginger Restaurant, probably our favorite venue but with the fewest things we typically try.
So tomorrow is a big day, the first time either of us will have passed through the Panama Canal. Though there probably won't be a ceremony we'll both become official members of the Order of the Ditch! My cameras are charged and my alarm set for an early wakeup to witness the departure from the anchorage.
Here are a few pictures from today, many similar to those posted yesterday.
