DAY-00: Getting Ready - Final Preparations
Day – 00: Monday, February 17, 2020

This journey began with the making of a cruise reservation on May 23, 2019 and now almost nine months later it's almost time to go. The basic itinerary was intended to be a partial circumnavigation of South America by cruise ship. Our reservation was made with Oceania Cruise Lines to sail on the M.S. Marina from Buenos Aires, Argentina to Lima, Peru. Over the months the actual itinerary has morphed a bit but it was now cast in stone and time to complete our preparations.
As for last minute shopping, there is always something to buy. Today it was extra camera memory cards and a power adapter.
- What would we take?
- How many checked bags?
- How heavy would the bags be?
- How many cans of bug spray did we need?
- Who would use the purple, green or black bags?
- Are the passports current? If not, too late!
- Have we checked in with the airline?
- What time would we leave for the airport?
- Will our phones work?
- Do the kids know we're leaving and if so do they know where we're going?
As for last minute shopping, there is always something to buy. Today it was extra camera memory cards and a power adapter.
We're like so many who buy power adapters for each trip. We buy them, use them and then place the adapters in a safe spot for future use. The safe spots are so secure that we don't know where they are, thus the purchase of another adapter for this journey.
So as the day ended we were packed, well, at least the first iteration of packing; there was of course another day for changes and repacking, you know, the "last minute" stuff.
Cleaning out the refrigerator is an important preparation check list item; that's pretty well done as we had invited special friends over (if you're okay with leftovers you must be special) to share in leftovers for the past three nights, e.g cheese, berries, fish, steak, pizza, shrimp, sandwich meats, salads, wine, beer, fruit, ice cream, cookies, etc. Oh, I forgot to include finishing off the bottle of Irish Whiskey and the last drops of Tequila.
