DAY-28: Cruise Bonus Day #2
DAY-28: Cruise Bonus Day #2
Day – 28: Monday, March 16, 2020
Starting Location: At Sea Aboard the M.S. Marina
Ending Location: At Sea Aboard the M.S. Marina
Land ho!
We're at our CPA (closest point of approach) to Peru for this trip, just about twelve miles off the beach plenty of distance to keep those COVID buggers from reaching out to us.
I went walking early this morning and was chatting with an acquaintance from Australia. His retirement plan had just taken a huge hit with Australian financial markets down sharply, not encouraging for the European and U.S. markets following last week's precipitous fall.

Around 9:45, the cruise director announced that the ship had experienced a room key card failure. If you were out you couldn't get in and furthermore you couldn't buy things in the shops and stores. He reported that it would take about four hours to reprint the key cards for 600 rooms but in the meantime the room service staff members could let you in should you be locked out.
Our keys continued to work, but we received new ones anyway.
Dr. Kus came through again, today with a presentation about "Easter Island"; I now know the history, have seen images of the moias, and have been given cause to worry about the future of the island; good enough for me, check it off.
Had lunch in the Terraces Cafe, the buffet place. There's always a lot of things to try at a buffet, no different today. As a pleasant surprise, the sugar-free banana ice cream was good, actually tasted banana-ish with no crazy sugar substitute aftertaste.
The early morning exercise necessitated a counter-balancing afternoon nap and so it was, not a long nap but long enough!
So with the U.S. financial day having ended, yes the markets followed the Australian lead with one the largest daily percentage drops in the history of the DJIA.
This will be the closest we come to the Galapagos Islands. Suspect the islands are COVID free so the doors will be closed to all visitors.
Walked some more, observed sunset from the stateroom and now it's time for dinner.
Get ready you Wogs! In the wee hours of tomorrow morning we'll cross the equator moving from the South Pacific to the North Pacific and from Summer to Winter.
