DAY-25: Cruising the Pacific - Friday the 13th Yikes!

Day – 25: Friday, March 13, 2020

Starting Location: At Sea Aboard the M.S. Marina
Ending Location: At Sea Aboard the M.S. Marina

It's Friday, the 13th, hoping the crew is extra vigilant in steering clear of the various dangers one can encounter at sea.

Returning to more favorable topics and good fortunes, here's another story from the ship's "Plan of the Day". The cover story featured an elderly couple we had met several weeks ago. (Okay, I haven't forgotten that by most standards & definitions we too are "elderly").
In looking at the picture from todays' Currents newsletter, it's evident that the couple has been attending the "anti-aging" clinic in the ship's health spa while we were out drinking wine and eating empanadas. We may have to re-think the mission of cruising.

Again we had a late breakfast as the morning had a light schedule of activities. Just to have some filler for today's post here's a picture of our breakfast order card.
With breakfast behind us, we just hung out until the morning enrichment lecture by Dr. Kus entitled "What's New At Machu Picchu". The presentation told me all I will ever need to know about Machu Picchu, the history, re-discovery, current state, etc. For those planning the trip to Machu Picchu, they may be in luck as the size of the crowds may be reduced by the travel limitations caused by the global virus.

After the lecture we meandered down to the buffet lunch, as if we needed more food but who can resist, burgers, pizza, pasta, desserts and ice cream as a topper. In case you thought I was describing the offerings, that's true but in reality I had a burger, slice of pizza and a side of pasta before finishing lunch with ice cream. Who knows when we would next see food, maybe not until 7 or 8 tonight.

In addition to more calories the one thing I learned from lunch was that we should invest in the "Saran" wrap companies.  As I think I've mentioned in the food venues there's no self service unless you bust through the Saran wrap protective barrier. On the ship, there's a lot of things being wrapped, perhaps self protective body wraps will become a new thing.

If you thought yesterday was a bit lean on pictures and activities, that was nothing compared to today. I can't even make stuff up. How many times can I write about walking the decks, playing bridge, etc. Have I mentioned that the skin on our hands is wearing thin from all of the sanitizing solution (high alcohol content) that we've been using.

Just had this thought, we're getting alcohol two ways, orally with consumption of wine, beer, Jamesons, single malts, etc. and by absorption with massive doses of hand sanitizers. Not sure any virus can live through such an environment.

All that said another highlight of the day was dinner, tonight in the Italian restaurant Toscana; it was Osso Buco for me, one of my favs!
