DAY-17: Fjords & Glaciers of Chile
DAY-17: Fjords & Glaciers of Chile
Day – 17: Thursday, March 5, 2020
Starting Location: At Sea Aboard the M.S. Marina
Ending Location: At Sea Aboard the M.S. Marina
Being it was a sea day we had a late breakfast, well it was at 8:30, not real late.
This cruise is entitled "Mystical Fjords", today the naming should become more obvious as we enter the fjords and glacial regions along the Chilean coast.
The onboard highlight for today's entertainment was the cooking demonstration by Senior Executive Chef Farid Oudir and Chef de Cuisine Toscana, Luca Brambilla. I think we had seen these two guys perform on another of our cruises. They're a great match one French the other Italian, I'll leave it to your imagination to decide who is whom (Is that proper??).

The two chefs have a great Franco-Italian banter even to the point of drawing an imaginary line between their cooking areas.

Today's menu included:
| Not sure what this is other than something topped with a soft cooked egg. |

The cooking looks so simple when all the prep work has been done and the cleanup is left to someone else.
This afternoon we arrived at what would be the best glacier viewing of the trip. Having traveled through fjords all morning by early afternoon there were signs of ice. Small bergs began to pass by the ship as we entered deeper into the fjords system, cue up the Titanic music.
Most of the glaciers we had seen were in mountain valleys or had backed away from entrance to the sea but this one, the _________ glacier was a long flowing sea of ice reaching into the water before us.
Today we did not see any calving or other ice falls, but we were close enough for some of the louder sounds of ice breaking and cracking. For comparison we did not get as close to the glacier on Marina as we did on the Alaska cruise but the viewing was similar in nature, swinging the ship in a manner that all sides are afforded a good view.

Upon departure from the glacier and iceberg field we turned back toward other fjords for the afternoon and were back into the Pacific west of Chile by evening.
As night fell the weather turned a bit rough, it will be a rockin' time tonight as we proceed through a second sea day tomorrow en-route to Puerto Chacabuco for Sheila's birthday.
